Antonis M. Vartholomeos
Antonis Vartholomeos is a seasoned executive with over three decades of leadership experience across banking, investment, and corporate transformation. He has held top leadership roles, including CEO positions, at some of Greece’s most prominent corporations and financial institutions, consistently delivering strategic growth, operational excellence, and profitability in complex environments.
As CEO of Pancreta Bank (2020–2024), Antonis led the transformation of the bank from a cooperative into a full-scale commercial bank with nationwide prominence. He directed the mergers and acquisitions of HSBC Greece (2023), Cooperative Bank of Central Macedonia (2024), and Attica Bank, achieving record net profits of €95 million. His leadership focused on operational restructuring, liquidity growth, and digital banking integration, positioning Pancreta as a key player in Greece’s banking sector.
At Attica Bank (2019–2020), Antonis served as Deputy CEO and Executive Board Member, leading Retail Banking, Treasury, Digital Banking, and IT functions. He launched automation initiatives, enhanced service delivery, and streamlined operational workflows. As Chairman of Attica Bancassurance Agency, he spearheaded new insurance products and revenue diversification, laying the groundwork for the bank’s successful merger with Pancreta.
At EYDAP S.A. (2013–2015), he returned as Chairman and CEO, where he executed a large-scale reorganization of Greece’s largest water and wastewater company. His strategic reforms increased cash reserves to over €200 million while maintaining a zero-debt balance sheet. His modernization of processes, cost control measures, and operational upgrades established EYDAP as one of Greece’s most stable utility companies.
Between 2011 and 2013, Antonis played a pivotal role as a Board Member of the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF), contributing to Greece's landmark privatization program. He was directly involved in the privatization of major state assets such as OPAP, Piraeus Port, and Hellinikon Airport, supporting Greece’s compliance with the economic reform conditions set by the European Commission, ECB, and IMF.
From 2010 to 2012, Antonis served as Chairman of Pegasus Securities, where he drove the company's financial restructuring, strengthened internal governance, and re-established regulatory compliance.
During his first tenure at EYDAP (2004–2010), Antonis spearheaded the company's financial reorganization and debt restructuring elimination while modernizing operations and service delivery. He introduced infrastructure upgrades, digital transformation, and efficiency-driven reforms that bolstered service quality and profitability.
As General Manager and Executive Vice President of Euroholdings Capital & Investment Corp. (2000–2004), he led investment strategy, M&A activity, and equity growth initiatives. He played a critical role in financial restructuring, debt optimization, and corporate governance for the firm’s listed subsidiaries, driving increased shareholder value.
At Egnatia Bank (1996–1999), Antonis served as Deputy General Manager, where he played a leading role in the reverse merger with the Bank of Central Greece and the bank’s subsequent listing on the Athens Stock Exchange. He led the restructuring of key operational, technological and financial functions, implemented risk control frameworks, and improved profitability, resulting in significant gains in market share and shareholder value.
Earlier, at Interbank of Greece (1992–1996), he served as Senior Director of Credit Control & Risk Management, where he established and led the Mortgage Lending activities of the bank. He was responsible for managing credit, liquidity, and IT risk while chairing the IT and Past-Due Loans Committees, where his efforts significantly reduced non-performing loans and improved the bank's financial stability.
Antonis began his career at Atlantic Bank of New York (1981–1987), where he rose to Officer-in-Charge of Mortgage Lending, managing a $3.5 billion mortgage portfolio and introducing one of New York City’s first home equity loans. He later became Vice Chairman & COO of Olympian Bank, where he played a key role in obtaining its banking license, launching operations, and ensuring regulatory compliance. At Olympian Mortgage Group, he led the development of mortgage-backed securities (MBS), one of the first initiatives of its kind, overseeing underwriting and managing loan portfolios.
Antonis holds a degree in Economics from the University of Piraeus and pursued advanced studies at Fordham University in New York, completing his Master’s and Doctoral coursework as a Ph.D. candidate in Finance and International Economics.
